KINO LONDON SHORT FILM FESTIVAL
VIRTUAL INDUSTRY PANELS
SHORT FILM FINANCE
MON. APRIL 24 | 6:30pm gmt
So you’ve got a great idea for a short film, but your pockets aren’t as deep as your imagination is wild… How can you get others to believe in your vision enough to cough up their hard earned cash?
In this session we’ll be chatting with:
Christian Parton from Genera Films
Thomas Verdi from The Film Fund
We’ll cover the basics in how to apply for their funds, plus best practices for pitches, budgets, and more.
At the end of the session we’ll welcome filmmaker James Newman to the conversation. As the 2022 recipient of our Kino Film Fund (produced film Do Not Touch), James can give insight into what it’s like working with Kino and our hands off approach, enabling creatives to have the free space to actualise their visions.

TUES. APRIL 25 | 6:30pm gmt
Let’s face it - most short filmmakers have bigger goals… Feature film goals! So how can you use short film as a way to develop your voice as an artist and how can you make the leap from shorts to features?
In this session we’ll be chatting with:
Laura Moss, a filmmaker from NYC whose work has screened at Tribeca, Rotterdam, and SXSW. Their feature film, ‘birth/rebirth’, premiered in the Midnight section at Sundance 2023. Their short film, ‘Fry Day’ is featured on the Criterion Channel. They directed the sci-fi/comedy pilot ‘eureka,’ which won Best Director, Comedy Pilot at Seriesfest. Their award-winning screenplay, ‘Gordon’, co-written with Brendan J. O’Brien, is currently in development.
Becky Hutner who just released her debut feature documentary Fashion Reimagined on SkyTv and NowTv after its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Clare Cooney who recently made her feature directorial debut with the horror-comedy Departing Seniors which is set for release later this year. Her previous shorts are: Runner which got her a “Filmmaker to Watch” nomination from the Oscar-Qualifying Atlanta Film Festival; After (A Love Story) and Pick Up which both played at Oscar-Qualifying festivals. She is also a senior programmer at Omeleto.
And the conversation will be moderated by Kino’s very own Dustin Curtis Murphy who premiered his debut feature film Coyote at the Phoenix Film Festival. Coyote is set for wide release later this year.
